4th World Congress for the Abolition of Prostitution
EQUALITY IN ACTION!
4th World Congress for the Abolition of prostitution
CAP International's World Congress is the world's largest Abolitionist event, bringing together a unique panel of survivors, researchers, frontline workers, activists, parliamentarians and officials.
After Paris (2014), New-Delhi (2017) and Mainz (2019), CAP International and its 35 member organisations from 28 countries are glad to hold their 4th World Congress against the prostitution of women and girls in Montréal, Canada, from the 1st to the 3rd of June 2024. This World Congress will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Coalition.
For this 4th edition, CAP International is proud to co-organise the World Congress with its 4 member organisations on the North American continent: CLES - Coordination des Luttes contre l'Exploitation Sexuelle (Montreal), Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter (Vancouver), EVA Center (Boston) and Breaking Free (Minneapolis).
Each presentation will be translated in English, French and Spanish.
We decided to name this Congress “Equality in Action”.
Because the fight for the abolition of the prostitution system is a fight for equality. It is a fight for the abolition of all the sexist, racist and class-based oppressions that push the most marginalised women and girls into the prostitution system.
This World Congress will address topics that are too often dismissed. The historical oppression of indigenous women and girls in the sex-trade, the intersectional oppressions that shape the prostitution system, the fight against neoliberal patriarchy, the role of sports events in the commodification of women will be among of the many topics discussed by over 40 speakers from all over the world. This World Congress will address the challenges but also the progress and achievements towards equality.
The World Congress will be opened by a World Survivors’ March on Saturday June 1st.
